one forty plus: Happy Holidays

jhnmyr:Thank you for your heartfelt kindness and the ability to get people behind good causes….I missed you so much.

When you see a string of lights in some perfect sequence of colors,

or when you hear a Christmas song that makes you joyful and somber at the same time,

that’s the work of dozens of Holiday memories coming together.

That’s the collective memory of many Holidays’ past.

There are kids out there…

You are not slick.

This picture is HILARIOUS!  I guffawed (yes the most unlady-like of laughs) when I saw this…The look on your face is priceless!  Thank you for a laugh on this most-mundane of mornings….

John Mayer Live at Beacon Theater…

So, I being a HUGE JM fan, I DVR’d the ‘Live at the Beacon Theater’ performance on Fuse last night…I am so disappointed. Not in JM’s performance, but in the sound quality.  I am sure live for the audience it was AWESOME.  But for the TV audience it was a total rip-off.  The music was great but John’s mic was either malfunctioning or it was not turned up loud enough.  The background singers were lounder than John….  I was so excited to watch it and I think they did him a big disservice by not engineering it correctly.  JM was spectacular on the CMA’s with Keith Urban and I am eagerly anticipating the Crossroads showing with Keith Urban too.  Thanks John for your passion for music and also for your special words to our enlisted men and women.  That was very cool of you!  You are a ROCKSTAR!

I believe that the BP oil spill could have even bigger ramifications on our country than we already realize.

The Gratitude Campaign

jhnmyr:

This is really simple, beautiful and extremely worthwhile. Check it out. I have said thank you to men and women of the military while at the airport and the experience is always really meaningful if not a bit uncomfortable for them. I don’t think there’s a social protocol yet for saying ‘thank you’ and this really nails it. I hope this catches on.

Drama

It is of vital importance to not take for granted the absence of drama in our lives. We plod through our lives and things are going well and we assume that is the way it supposed to be, then, out of the blue something happens to rock your world.  Something you never expected or prepared for.  In the space of a moment everything is different.  The dynamic is forever altered.  Just when you think you are at your breaking point another wave hits you, again catching you unprepared.  It becomes a struggle just to break the surface and breathe. So the next time time you are bored at home eating the same thing for dinner and going to bed at the same time, and curling up next to the one you always do, thank your lucky stars….

Last week in Los Angeles I participated in a live Q&A as part of an ASCAP expo on songwriting. When the topic of Twitter came up, I explained my waning interest in it being part of my daily life. By no means do I think it’s over as a medium altogether, but I do think that the days of “Twitter: The Breakthrough” have passed, as has been and will continue to be the case for every online social network. It’s reached it’s cruising altitude, so to speak. Patterns and templates are emerging. The Twitter-bred syntax isn’t really doing it for me anymore.
And call me crazy, but I don’t think it’s the healthiest thing in the world to read scads of mentions/@replies and effectively open the floodgate of other people’s approval/disapproval. Finding out in 140 characters what a stranger has to say about you is like a mathematical equation without an established value of ‘x’. Who are you, stranger? What do you stand for? What do you like, and if it’s not me, then what does move you? What DO you look up to? Once I find that out, I’ll know how disappointed I should be.
This is where Tumblr comes in. It’s the future of social networking if your image of the future features intelligent discourse. I love reading other Tumblr users replies, because they’re thoughtful by virtue of the fact that if they’re not, they’ll bring the intellectual property value of their own blog down, and that’s a commodity on Tumblr. This post is an experiment in itself. If you want to communicate with me, open a Tumblr account, follow me, repost my blog and then add to it. I’ll follow you back. Agree or disagree, lionize or demonize, but for God’s sake, be original. You’ll have all the room in the world to do it now.

John Mayer

I have spent the better part of 2 solid days on youtube and johnmayer.com listening to music and interviews by John Mayer.  I am captivated.  I am entranced.  I am hooked.  I love your music and your absolute PASSION for music.  I emphasize passion because it is evident in every piece of music you play.  Your music is heartfelt, your lyrics are a glimpse inside your soul.  Your hands on the guitar embody the word passion.  You are in love with your music, with making music, with the art and effort that goes into making music.  You are in love with the music of other artists, not just your own which just gives us more insight into your soul…My 6 disc changer in my car has 4 John Mayer CDs in it…the other 2 are just so my husband will not bitch about listening to John Mayer again.  (he may just be jealous).  There is something about your voice that draws me.  Not just your singing voice but your speaking voice as well…I have listened to countless interviews about everything youtube has to offer in regards to John Mayer.  I have played and repeated over and over the live in LA CDs where you speak.  Thank you God, and thank you John for giving us the gift of your voice.
